Project Summary
K2CG provided NAVFAC with preconstruction field design consultation and value engineering on this design-build project. The contract work included, but was not limited to, the removal of approximately one half acre area of concrete pavers and three hundred and thirty tons of sand base and the installation of a new hot polymeric fluid applied double membrane waterproofing system. The work also included the installation of thirty seven new area drain assemblies, custom copper sheet metal work and the installation of a sophisticated pedestal paver assembly.
Challenges
- Maintaining sections of the plaza deck open to pedestrian traffic (midshipmen, the general public
and VIPs) during construction. Bancroft Hall is the largest single dormitory in the world and is home for
the entire Brigade of 4,000 Midshipmen - Site safety and general hazard analysis and mitigation
- Ensuring compliance with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)
- Limited laydown and staging area
- Loading and installing approximately 6000 concrete pavers (375 tons) in a two color pattern design
